City of Rockville Will Honor County’s 9/11 Victims at Memorial Ceremony

On Monday, Sept.11 at 9 a.m. the City of Rockville will mark the 22nd anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and honor the 11 Montgomery County residents who lost their lives that day.

The ceremony will feature a presentation of colors and remarks by Rockville Mayor Bridget Donnell Netwon at Courthouse Square Park in Rockville.

Rockville’s government X account posted the event Friday morning, encouraging residents to attend the ceremony which will be free and open to the public.

The memorial at Courthouse Square Park has a grass area surrounded by 11 benches with each bench dedicated to the victims through an inscription.

According to the Rockville Public Information Office, the memorial was designed with the help of astronomers so that the sun would illuminate the names on the morning of Sept. 11.

The following victims are honored by the memorial: William Edward Caswell, Dr. Gerald Paul Fisher, Capt. Lawrence D. Getzfred, Michele M. Heidenberger, Angela Marie Houtz, Teddington Hamm Moy, Lt. Darin H. Pontell, Scott A. Powell, Todd Hayes Reuben, Patricia J. Statz and Ernest M. Willcher.
