Clean-Up Day Set June 1 at Evans Parkway Park

During Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week, Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-González invites residents to join a clean-up June 1 at Evans Parkway Park in Silver Spring at 10 a.m.

Fani-González, who chairs the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Chesapeake Bay and Water Policy Research Committee, is hosting the event at 2001 Evans Parkway.

The event celebrates the passage of a law expanding restrictions on lead and Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in certain products by prohibiting a person from using playground surfacing materials that contain either more than 90 parts per million of lead or a component product, material or substance to which PFAS chemicals were previously intentionally added.

“By protecting playground surfaces from harmful chemicals, this legislation ensures a healthier future for our little ones, underscoring our shared commitment to environmental sustainability and public health. It’s a significant step towards a safer and more secure community,” said Fani-González, who chairs the County Council’s Economic Development Committee.
