As the area continues to deal with wildfire smoke coming from Canada, a Code Orange has been forecast for air quality Friday.
It is an improvement from Thursday’s Code Red, which indicates unhealthy air quality conditions.
On Wednesday, the region was also under a Code Orange, which indicates unhealthy air quality conditions for sensitive groups.
The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) makes air quality forecasts for the region in partnership with the Maryland Department of the Environment and other agencies.
AirNow, a partnership of national, state and local agencies, also forecast unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups Friday.
COG advises that, “Sensitive groups like people with heart or lung disease like asthma or emphysema, older adults, and children should make outdoor activities shorter and less intense and watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath.”
Air quality in the D.C. region is expected to improve tomorrow although it will still be unhealthy for sensitive groups. COG forecasts Code Orange air quality for Friday, June 30. Stay air quality aware: https://t.co/vujQarGehK pic.twitter.com/Gkqg7kwEDb
