Montgomery County will celebrate Arbor Day by commemorating the new county tree, a black tupelo, on Friday at 4 p.m. The event will occur at the East County Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring.
There will be speakers from the county’s department of Environmental Protection and Transportation and Parks according to a press release. The Audubon Nationalist Society will also participate.
Montgomery County will encourage tree planting and bring attention to increasing tree canopy which will help the environment. The event will involve planting black tupelos and other trees along with a raffle for participants.
“Plogging” supplies and different types of trees will be in the raffle. “Plogging” is helping the environment like picking up trash while walking, running or biking, the website states.
