Community Complaint Leads to Handgun Arrest of Takoma Park Man

Montgomery County Police arrested a Takoma Park man on July 19 in the course of an investigation into a community concern.

Police were conducting an investigation in the area of Cornet Ct. after a community complaint of illegal drug activity in the area when they witnessed a Hyundai Kona commit multiple traffic violations.

Police subsequently conducted a traffic stop, during which officers allegedly observed a handgun with an extended magazine “in plain view” in the passenger’s seat. Police placed the driver, 32-year-old Dimitri Lemaire, under arrest.

“We take community complaints seriously,” MCPD District Three Commander Captain Jason Cokinos wrote on X. “Another prevented shooting and/or homicide by taking another illegal gun off the street.”

The State of Maryland is bringing several gun-related charges against Lemaire, including one felony in the form of criminal firearm possession. His preliminary hearing will take place August 16.
