Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will host information sessions this month where community members can learn more about the system’s operating budget.
MCPS’ operating budget for the 2023 fiscal year was roughly $3 billion. The community discussions will revolve around the district’s recommended operating budget for fiscal year 2024, which begins on April 1, 2023.
The first meeting will occur Saturday on the second floor of the Mid-County Regional Services Center in Wheaton from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Spanish and American Sign Language interpretation will be provided.
County schools will also host a virtual community meeting on the budget on Nov. 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Residents can join the Zoom or visit the MCPS website for more information.
A third session will include a Spanish-only discussion and take place on Nov. 30 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Spanish session will take place in the Carver Educational Services Center Auditorium in Rockville.
During the meetings, MCPS officials will educate community members on the process and factors that build the recommended operating budget, as well as how the budget will support the district’s strategic priorities and goals.
Residents can also submit budget questions to MCPS in advance of the meetings on the district’s website. Registration is required for all three community meetings.
Community members can also view the county’s budget guide for the 2024 fiscal year on MCPS’ website to better understand the process of crafting the district budget.
