To wrap up “Winter Road Salt Awareness Week,” the Izaak Walton League hosted an event Friday in Gaithersburg about smart salt use as well as the negative effects of road salt on the environment, including on local waterways in Montgomery County.
The event included a water quality demonstration that tested a sample from Muddy Branch stream.
The Izaak Walton League of America is a national conservation organization headquartered in Gaithersburg.
Montgomery County has its own annual “Salt Wise” campaign that aims to raise awareness about the impacts of road salt use and to discourage excessive salt use during winter.
