Quince Orchard beat Wise 24-13 in the Maryland 4A State Championship game in Annapolis Friday night. For the Cougars (13-0), it was their third state title in the last four years and sixth in school history.
Quince Orchard opened the scoring in the second quarter on running back Iverson Howard’s short run to make it 7-0, the game’s only score in the first half. The Cougars made it 14-0 on a short run by quarterback Trayvon Jackson in the third. Wise cut the lead to 14-7 in the 4th but Q.O. responded with another Howard run to make it 21-7. The Pumas answered with a 38-yard scoring play to cut the lead to 21-13. Quince Orchard added a field goal for insurance.
The Pumas, last year’s state champs, finished the season 11-2.
