“In January, I proposed the establishment of a well-staffed and well-resourced wellness center at every high school in Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland, that would provide a safe and welcoming space for all of our students. This innovative initiative would establish temporary wellness centers immediately using existing spaces and relocatable classrooms while we work to maintain the permanent facility over a five-year period,” Councilwoman Navarro said in a press release. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to establish long-term funds that will implement permanent wellness centers in all high schools.”
There are currently five High School Wellness Centers located at Northwood, Gaithersburg, Watkins Mill, Wheaton, and Seneca Valley High Schools. A sixth wellness center is under construction at Kennedy High School. Mental health and positive youth development services are offered to all students at the school.
