Council President Denounces Trump’s Orders Restricting LGBTQ+ Rights

County Council President Kate Stewart denounced President Donald Trump’s LGBTQ-related executive orders that she called “direct attacks.”

“These executive orders are direct attacks on valued members of our community, and we will not let our transgender and gender nonconforming neighbors stand alone,” Stewart said during a media briefing Monday.

Trump’s executive orders include directives targeting transgender people in the military, gender-affirming care for youth, and social transitioning in schools.

Stewart said the orders keep teachers from treating students with respect and dignity, “denying the reality of these students’ lives and causing immeasurable suffering.”

She reminded the community that there are relevant resources on the council’s website.
