Council President Stresses Urgent Need for Mental Health Services

Ahead of a community meeting Thursday, County Council President Kate Stewart said mental health is an urgent need for federal employees and residents facing uncertainty.

“One of the other urgent needs we’ve been hearing from folks is understanding resources regarding mental health services that are available,” Stewart said during a media briefing Monday.

“We know that given the attacks from the White House right now, it is impacting our community in a number of ways, and we want to make sure people are connected with resources that we have here,” Stewart said.

She will host the second United in Service and Support virtual meeting with U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be focused on mental health support and resources.

Stewart said more than 650 residents tuned in last week to the first in the series of webinar meetings, which aims to help federal workers, contractors, and residents in the county. The kickoff meeting was focused on unemployment and health benefits.
