Councilmember Will Jawando will hold the eighth annual Councilmember for a Day challenge.
This challenge was initiated by former County Councilmember Craig Rice to include younger generations in public policy and governmental matters. Students in sixth through eighth grade are eligible to take part in this.
Students must create a video about public policy focusing on an issue and propose solutions. According to the press release, the winner will “be the guest of honor at a Council breakfast, receive a Council proclamation, serve as an honorary Councilmember for a Day, and receive prizes to enable their continued digital storytelling.”
Montgomery Blair High School Student Malaika Wande was last year’s winner. She spoke about the need for affordable housing in the county, using personal anecdotes.
Registration is open until Oct. 27.
