Montgomery County Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles will host her third annual Women’s History Month event on March 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Silver Spring Civic Center, according to a press release.
This year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations,” focuses on the impact of women’s leadership and mentorship in shaping future generations.
The event will include discussions with local leaders and a mentorship-matching session to promote networking and professional development.
“Launched in 2022, this annual event commemorates Women’s History Month and aligns with this year’s national theme, allowing us each year to highlight the achievements and progress of women in various forms across Montgomery County,” Sayles said in the press release. “By creating mentorship and professional development opportunities for women and girls, we amplify underrepresented voices, empower women to confidently claim their space, and nurture an inclusive, collaborative community.”
U.S. Sen. Angela Alsobrooks will deliver the keynote address. Alsobrooks, the first woman elected as Prince George’s County Executive, has advocated for equity and policy initiatives across Maryland
Her vision, “Moving Maryland Forward,” aligns with the event’s mission to honor women’s contributions.
Additional speakers include Montgomery County Council President Kate Stewart, Girl Power Contest winner Summer Zhong, and Woman to Woman Mentoring Executive Director Amanda Whitener, and others.
The event, held at One Veterans Place in Silver Spring, will open at 8:30 a.m. with a light breakfast and networking.
