The county council passed a resolution supporting the transgender community.
Councilmembers voted unanimously on the resolution during a meeting Tuesday. It was introduced last month.
“We don’t have to look very far to see that LGBTQ+ rights, and in particular, transgender rights, are under attack in most jurisdictions across the United States, or in many jurisdictions across the United States,” Council President Evan Glass said during a media briefing Monday ahead of Tuesday’s meeting.
“But here in Montgomery County we are taking steps to fully support and protect the trans community and all members of the LGBTQ+ community.”
Lead sponsors are Councilmembers Laurie-Anne Sayles, Kristin Mink, Kate Stewart and Glass. All other councilmembers are cosponsors.
