The county is currently accepting donated dresses, suits, and accessories for this season’s student proms.
On Saturday, April 5, students from county high schools will get to choose items during the “Prom Couture Closet” event at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center in Burtonsville, per a release. That day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., any high school student with their I.D. card can choose a free prom dress or suit, shoes, and accessories.
This is the fourth year the county is hosting the prom clothing giveaway, which aims to eliminate financial obstacles to attending prom. The event was previously called “Project Prom Dress.”
Montgomery County Recreation is collecting gently used or new dresses, suits, dry cleaned shirts, shoes, ties, and accessories at the Praisner Center until Friday, Feb. 28. Residents can drop off items Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
There will be two additional collection sites on two separate days: the Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center in Chevy Chase on Saturday, Feb. 22 and the Germantown Community Recreation Center on Saturday, March 1. Collection will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for both sites.
