Silver Spring will have two new electric vehicle fast charging stations thanks to Maryland’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program.
The stations will be located Colesville Park and Ride on New Hampshire Avenue and Montgomery County Parking Lot Number 12 at 1920 Seminary Rd.
Funding comes from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which was created by the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The program calls for 130 fast charging ports at 23 sites in 15 Maryland counties.
“We are a state leader in EV ownership with more than 31 percent of Maryland’s electric vehicles registered in Montgomery County,” said Executive Marc Elrich. “I am one of the EV drivers who will be glad to see the expansion of fast chargers in our County. By expanding our EV charging infrastructure, we are making it easier for residents and visitors to choose electric vehicles and move towards a more sustainable future.”
In a news release, Gov. Wes Moore said, “Clean energy is not just smart for the environment; it creates new jobs for Marylanders and strengthens our economy. Climate action is about more than avoiding disaster. It’s about growing opportunity, and we can – and we will – do both. ”
He added, “Maryland takes a back seat to no one in advancing our clean energy goals, and today, we move one step closer to achieving a more sustainable future for all.”
County Department of Environmental Protection Director Jon Monger noted, “Reliable and convenient charging options make electric vehicle adoption easier, which helps our environment and better serve our community’s needs.”
