On Monday, the Montgomery County Government received the Gold Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health award.
The Bell Seal National Certification program recognizes a few employers each year committed to creating mentally healthy work environments. The award recognizes the County’s programs and efforts aimed to promote mental heath in the workplace.
“Mental well-being in the workplace is no longer secondary to physical health, and it is important as an employer to make space for it,” said county executive Marc Elrich.
The certification required an evaluation of policies and practices influencing mental health as well as workplace culture benefits and wellness programs. The county’s “LiveWell” program played a large role in attaining the recognition.
The county also offers Mental Health First Aid Training to employees which helps participants assist someone in a mental health crisis or with a mental health condition. According to Mental Health America, only 46% of companies offer any mental health training.
