Montgomery County will hold a one-day hiring event for correctional officers on Saturday, April 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place at the Public Safety Headquarters, 100 Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg.
The Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR) aims to fill several open positions. The event will streamline the application process, allowing candidates to complete exams and physicals on the same day.
The One-Day Processing Event will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Qualified applicants can complete the entry-level exam and oral board interview in under three hours. Those who pass both steps will receive a contingent job offer.
DOCR manages adult offenders, oversees rehabilitation programs, and supervises individuals awaiting trial or serving sentences up to 18 months. Correctional Officer I (Private) responsibilities include maintaining security, custody, and discipline of incarcerated individuals.
Base salaries start at $59,966 and can increase to $68,288 or more within three years. The role offers career advancement, competitive benefits, and multiple retirement plans. Officers also receive ongoing paid training.
“We know this is a tough job market with many people losing work at the federal level,” DOCR Director Ben Stevenson said. “We are looking for candidates with or without military backgrounds who want to try something new and build a fulfilling career.”
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of full-time work experience after graduation. More details and applications are available at governmentjobs.com.
