Monday marks one year since the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. Nearly 1,500 civilians were murdered and abducted “in the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust,” County Council President Andrew Friedson said during a media briefing.
In a written statement Monday afternoon, County Executive Marc Elrich said, “We hope for the return of the remaining hostages, an end to the suffering and peace for all. The ripple effects of that violence continue to impact not just the peace and stability of the Middle East, but also our community here in Montgomery County.”
Elrich said county police are increasing patrols around synagogues, mosques and other faith institutions.
