Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, the Montgomery County Muslim Foundation and the Montgomery County Muslim Council joined with people from all faiths at Tuesday’s annual Iftar Dinner during Ramadan. The holiday began March 22 and ends April 20.
The event was held at the County Executive Building in Rockville and began with the recitation of the Holy Quran.
Speakers included Comptroller Brooke Lierman, a video presentation from U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, Montgomery County Council President Evan Glass, Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller, Delegate Sarah Wolek – the only Muslim member of the Maryland General Assembly – and several members of the Muslim community.
Following the speeches, attendees enjoyed Iftar, an evening meal that breaks the fast during Ramadan.
During the evening, community service awards were given to Mumin Barre, Iman Faizul Khan, Shane Rock and Montgomery County Police Officers Ryan Grzybowski and Lee Myers.
