Montgomery County residents can pick up free at-home PCR test kits at multiple centers throughout the jurisdiction.
At the Wheaton Community Recreation Center, about 75 kits were distributed on the first day of pickup Wednesday, said Jake Hough, Recreation Coordinator for the center. County residents can get two nasal swab kits per person per visit, and each kit contains one test. They can be self-administered at home and returned to a drop-off box at the pickup location.
PCR tests have a longer turnaround time than rapid antigen tests, but results are more reliable. These kits are collected daily and results will be emailed to individuals within 48 hours of drop-off.
The PCR kits are offered at five recreation centers and the Dennis Avenue Health Center. See locations and hours here. County libraries continue to offer free rapid take-home tests and N95 masks.
