Montgomery County announced Monday a $1 million in grants through the Community Projects Fund to assist smaller, volunteer-led grassroots nonprofits.
Grant money will be awarded to nonprofits with less than three employees and an annual budget of $250,000 or less, according to a press release from Montgomery County. Qualifying nonprofits should focus on community-based projects and events.
The Community Projects Fund will award between $5,000 and $25,000 over a six-month span.
Four rounds of $250,000 will be awarded from this grant. The first round is open now, the next will open in fiscal year 2024.
Montgomery County officials encourage any qualifying nonprofits to apply.
“The nonprofit sector is critical to maintaining a strong social safety net in Montgomery County,” County Council President Evan Glass said in the release.
The grant program is flexible allowing nonprofits to identify what they need to best assist their communities.
The county’s Office of Grants Management organized a committee to review and score applications on a point-based scale using the grant’s criteria.
Applications for the first round of grants is available now until August 20 at 11:59 p.m
