The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) announced free parking in County-owned garages and lots on two major holiday shopping dates: Saturday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 21. On-street meter fees will remain in effect during these days.
County Executive Marc Elrich highlighted the importance of the initiative, which coincides with Small Business Saturday and Super Saturday, two of the busiest shopping days of the year. “I hope this encourages residents to visit our independent retail stores and enjoy a festive meal or drink while supporting the local shops and restaurants that make Montgomery County a special place to live,” Elrich said.
Small Business Saturday promotes shopping at locally-owned businesses during the holiday season, while Super Saturday, the Saturday before Christmas, is known for last-minute holiday purchases.
MCDOT Director Chris Conklin emphasized the department’s goal to boost local business patronage. “We hope by offering free parking, residents and visitors will take the time to shop in person at some of our local businesses,” Conklin said. He also noted the availability of the County’s Ride On bus service, which costs $1 and provides access to major shopping destinations.
This initiative supports both convenience and community engagement, encouraging shoppers to explore Montgomery County’s unique businesses during the holiday season.
