Montgomery County residents now have free access to job training classes for six months under the new SkillUp Montgomery, thanks to WorkSource Montgomery.
A new online platform allows residents to take these classes. It also enables small, local businesses to offer these skill classes to their employees. The virtual classes are designed so that eligible residents can take classes, explore new careers and prepare for various industry-related certifications.
“We are excited to launch SkillUp® Montgomery to offer all Montgomery County residents an additional resource to upskill during this public health crisis (and beyond),” said Executive Director Anthony Featherstone in a news release. He noted that the classes are a good fit for anyone seeking a first job, a new job or advancement in a current job.
Workforce Montgomery will use the Metrix E-Learning System, which will provide residents with round-the-clock access to more than 5,000 workplaces, businesses, technical classes and certification classes that are self-paced. To see what is offered, check out Skillup America.
The classes will also be used by area businesses to find skilled candidates or to help new hires. Employers can list job openings.
Once users pass an assessment, they can upload their resume or send information to a specific employer.
WorkSource Montgomery is funded by county and has locations in Wheaton and Germantown.
