Adults will be able to learn how to ride bicycles and use e-scooters through a county-guided program. Classes will be offered during the months of April, May, and June. There are two courses available for bicycle classes: a Learn-to-Ride, and a basic skills program. Additionally, e-scooter classes will be provided for free on certain dates.
The courses will be open to all adults, 18 and older. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and the Washington Area Bicycle Association (WABA) bring the service to the community.
In order to participate in the bicycle sessions, residents will need to register for the program of their choice in advance. The program is limiting the number of participants in the program to 25 people, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents of the county will only have to pay $10, and WABA members can participate for free.
E-scooter classes will not need pre-registration. A valid ID will be needed to participate and residents will be able to drop-in for free classes.
The basic skills courses will have beginner lessons on bicycle pedaling, balance, and stopping. For the Learn-to-Ride courses, adults will be able to learn more in-depth bicycle instructions. Most importantly, participants of each course will be able to progress at their own paces.
