It will be an active two weeks in the nation’s capital as Congress gets ready to certify the presidential election and the country marks the anniversary of the Jan. 6 raid on the U.S. Capitol Monday, then former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral Thursday and the inauguration of President Donald Trump Jan. 20.

Montgomery County Police officers are involved in the events.

Montgomery County Police Chief Marc Yamada explained that his department is involved in all three events and will send “a small contingent” of officers each time. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel will be in Washington, D.C. to assist during the presidential inauguration.

“We do have officers at the Capitol today, but for security reasons, I am not able to release how many or what their assignments are,” said Shiera Goff, director of media and public relations for the police department on Monday morning.

U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger will play a large role in keeping the area secure. He served as Montgomery County Police Chief from 2004 to 2019.
