Several Montgomery County members of the Aquatic Rescue Team have been sent to Florida. They are on standby to help out if needed during any rescue efforts due to Hurricane Debbie.
Another 45 rescue workers from Montgomery, Howard and Frederic counties as well as D.C., arrived in South Carolina early Monday “waiting for whatever is next,” explained Pete Piringer, spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.
Members of the Emergency Search and Rescue Team headed out from Rockville Sunday evening after getting a request from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to deploy, Piringer said.
Fire Chief Corey Smedley addressed members of the task force as they prepared their gear and equipment. They are expected to remain in the south for two weeks, according to Smedley.
