County Seeks Participants for Annual Thanksgiving Parade

Montgomery County is seeking participants to march in the annual Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade which marks the start of the holiday season in Silver Spring.

The parade, the only one with a Thanksgiving theme in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, will begin at 10 a.m. and run until noon on Nov. 16. The deadline for applications to march in the parade is 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 1. For those planning on just attending, no tickets are needed according to a press release.

The parade starts in the Silver Spring Arts and Entertainment District at Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street. Then, it moves south on Georgia Avenue, finishing at the intersection of Silver Spring Avenue and Georgia Avenue.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said, “The Thanksgiving Parade in Silver Spring is a long-standing Montgomery County tradition that brings together residents from across our community to celebrate the holiday season and our diversity. Whether you are a performer, an artist or part of a creative group, this is your opportunity to showcase your talents to thousands of spectators. I encourage everyone to consider participating and help make this year’s parade the most memorable yet.”

According to the press release, the participants encouraged to apply are Thanksgiving or holiday-themed units, marching bands, dance and gymnastic groups, majorettes and baton twirlers, multicultural groups, clowns, floats, artists, sports teams, costumed characters, beauty queens, classic car clubs and other creative displays.
