County Seeks Public Input on Charter Revisions

The Montgomery County Charter Review Commission is seeking public input on potential revisions to the County Charter.

The County Charter serves as the constitutional framework for Montgomery County government. The County Council, with the County Executive, appoints an 11-member bipartisan commission to review the Charter and recommend changes.

Every two years, the Commission submits a report to the County Council by May 1. The report outlines its activities and suggests possible revisions. If approved by the Council, proposed amendments appear on the ballot for voter approval. The Commission presented reports in April and June 2024.

The Commission is now gathering public suggestions for its 2025-2026 review. Topics submitted could become recommendations in its May 2026 report. Residents are encouraged to submit comments by June 5, 2025, to allow the Commission sufficient time for review.

Public comments can be emailed to charterreview.commission@montgomerycountymd.gov or mailed to:

100 Maryland Ave., 6th Floor

The Commission plans to hold public listening sessions in fall 2025 to gather additional input.

Past reports, meeting minutes, recordings, and a link to the County Charter are available on the Commission’s webpage: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/crc/index.html.
