The Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame has extended its nomination deadline to Sunday, Sept. 15, after receiving an overwhelming number of submissions. The Hall of Fame, which celebrates notable figures in the County’s sports history, received more than four dozen nominations in just a few weeks.
Residents can nominate individuals who have excelled in their sports or made significant contributions to Montgomery County’s sports culture. Nominations may include athletes, coaches, officials, journalists, and others who have had a lasting impact on the County’s sports scene.
Residents can submit nominations online through the Hall of Fame’s website, www.mcshf.org. The site also provides nomination criteria and details about past inductees. The next class of inductees will be honored in a ceremony scheduled for May.
Bob Milloy, a high school football coaching legend and the new chair of the Hall of Fame’s board of directors, emphasized the community’s passion for recognizing sports achievements. “Montgomery County deeply cares about its sports and the people who make it great,” said Milloy.
Milloy stressed the Hall of Fame’s commitment to honoring a wide range of contributions to Montgomery County sports. “We aim to recognize those who have made a difference, both on and off the scoreboard,” said Milloy. The Hall of Fame continues to evolve as an institution that honors achievements across all aspects of the sports world.
Founded in 2019, the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame now has a permanent home at the Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center. In July, the Hall of Fame dedicated a sculpture of Olympic gold medalist Dominique Dawes outside the center. County Executive Marc Elrich and Councilmember Gabe Albornoz led the ceremony.
