Montgomery County will once again recognize businesses for being eco-friendly.
The county’s Department of Environmental Protection has relaunched the Green Business Certification Program. The program will recognize local businesses and encourage sustainability in their operations, the county said Thursday.
“Through the Montgomery County Green Business Certification Program, we are empowering local businesses to embrace sustainability, demonstrating that economic success and environmental stewardship go hand in hand,”said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich.
After businesses document their sustainable practices, they’ll be awarded tiers such as bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The program will also encourage the community to buy from green businesses, the county said.
The certification program was relaunched in collaboration with the nonprofit Bethesda Green after a lapse during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the county and the organization’s website.
“Bethesda Green’s experience with helping eco-entrepreneurs develop and grow for-profit businesses makes them uniquely positioned to manage the Green Business Certification Program and take it to the next level,” Elrich said.
