County Under Hyperthermia Alert Friday

The county is under a Hyperthermia Alert for extreme heat Friday from noon to 8 p.m.

The county’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security tells residents to expect the heat index to be more than 95 degrees. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves and their pets from heat-related illness.

“Feels like temps [between] 100-112,” according to the National Weather Service.

Safety tips from the county include staying indoors whenever possible. Residents are urged to never leave pets, young children, or elderly people in a car for any amount of time even with an open window. The temperature in a parked car can reach 130 degrees in just a few minutes.
