Do you have an extra or unused bicycle in good condition that you no longer need? The county’s program to match donated bicycles with residents seeks donations.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) started the bike match program more than three years ago with the goal to match donated bicycles with requests from individuals in need who live or work in Montgomery County.
Since the program launched in June of 2020, BikeMatchMoCo has distributed more than 500 bicycles so far and the demand remains high. Currently, there is a list of more than 200 adults looking for a bike.
The county typically hosts a bike drive in October. The 5th annual drive, held on Oct. 14 set a new record with more than 300 bike donations.
The bike match program also accepts donations of and requests for children’s bikes.
Donated bikes must be in ready-to-ride condition and should be cleaned and sanitized before drop-off.

Residents who wish to donate or receive a bike can do so by filling out the online form on MCDOT’s BikeMatchMoCo website. Once a donated bike has been matched to a recipient, a MCDOT representative will facilitate the donation and pickup. The bike donation deliveries are conducted separately, and all information is confidential.
