COVID-19 Hospitalizations Rise

The county is experiencing seasonal highs in flu cases and a rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

COVID-19 hospitalizations have doubled over the past two weeks, County Executive Marc Elrich said during a media briefing Wednesday.

There are 31 hospitalized patients this week compared to 15 patients two weeks ago. State hospitalizations are also up.

County Health Officer Dr. Kisha Davis said while numbers are up, this is still a significant improvement from past years. She said this time in 2023 there were 68 acute hospitalizations for COVID-19 and four people in the ICU, and this time in 2022 there were 152 acute hospitalizations and 24 people in the ICU.

Elrich said “vaccines are the best form of protection.”

RSV and even Norovirus are going around as well, he said.
