Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for May 6
Montgomery County health officials reported Thursday that 39.7% of the county residents are fully vaccinated which means they have either received two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson single-dose vaccine. Also, 54.7% of the county residents have received their first dose of one of the two-dose vaccines.
The Maryland Department of Health reported only 14 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Thursday morning. This is the lowest number of new cases recorded since 10 cases were confirmed on March 23, 2020 at the start of the pandemic in Montgomery County.
The county’s cumulative case count currently is 70,089.
Montgomery County recorded two new coronavirus-related fatalities Thursday, bringing the death toll to 1,479, the highest in the state
As of May 4, there are 86 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Montgomery County.
Wednesday, the county has a rate of 2.02% positive COVID-19 tests, which is a decrease of 0.06 from Tuesday’s rate of 2.08%. The county’s positivity rate is the lowest rate in the state.
With 1,479 COVID-19 related fatalities, Montgomery County leads the state in fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 83,598 cases and 1,438 fatalities. Baltimore County has the third-highest number of cases (64,193) and the second most fatalities (1,453) in the state.
Somerset County located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore has the most cases per capita cases in the state with 99.5 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 97.6 cases per 1,000 residents.

The Maryland Department of Health reported Thursday that 36.7% of Marylanders are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Of those vaccinated, 33.5% received two doses of either the Pizer or Moderna vaccines and 3.2% received the Johnson and Johnson single-dose vaccine.
Thursday the state recorded 578 new infections bringing the state’s cumulative case count to 451,267.
There are 901 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across the state as of Thursday morning.
Thursday the state recorded 9 newly reported deaths, bringing the state death toll to 8,631.
The state reported that 3.66% of tests from Wednesday were positive for COVID-19. This is a decrease of 0.05 from Tuesday’s rate of 3.71%.
