Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for March 2

The Maryland Department of Health reported 104 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Tuesday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is 63,499.

The county most recently reported on Feb. 24 that 158 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Montgomery County.

Montgomery County recorded six new coronavirus-related fatalities Tuesday. The COVID-19 death toll in the county is 1,373.

The county has a rolling seven-day average of 2.98% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is an increase of 0.15 from Monday’s average rate of 2.83%. The rate has remained below 3% for seven straight days. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 16 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.

Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services clinics are currently vaccinating 1A (all tiers) and 1B (Tier 1: ages 75+). All residents in 1A, 1B, and 1C may preregister for the vaccine.  According to Montgomery health officials, 7.4% of the county’s residents have received two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, 14.9% have received the first dose.

Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has 1,302 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 73,509 cases.

Somerset County on the Eastern Shore has the highest cases per capita at 93.3 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 91 cases per 1,000 residents.

Tuesday the state recorded 468 new infections, bringing the state’s cumulative case count to 383,170. This is the fewest new cases recorded in a 24 hour period since Oct. 6 when 460 cases were reported.

896 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 across the state. It has been nearly four months since fewer patients were hospitalized with Covid-19 in the state; Nov. 12 there were 863 patients being treated with the virus in the hospital.

The state recorded 26 newly reported deaths Tuesday, bringing the state death toll to 7,723.

The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 3.35% for positive COVID-19 tests Tuesday. This is a decrease of 0.17 from Monday’s rate of 3.52%. The state’s positivity rate remains below 4% for the ninth straight day.

Maryland is currently in Phase 1C of its vaccination plan and may soon move to Phase 2 based on receiving more vaccine doses. Gov. Larry Hogan is holding a COVID-19 briefing Tuesday at 1 p.m. According to the Maryland Department of Health, 8.01% of the state’s residents have received two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
