Crane Lifts 18-Foot Bear Statue At Landon School Onto New Platform

Students at Landon School in Bethesda watched their 18-foot bear statue get lifted onto a new platform Thursday. A crane lifted the bear, which is the school’s mascot, onto a steel-reinforced platform on-campus.

The Kodiak bear chainsaw carving — created in 2019 — helped preserve a dying 250-year-old tulip poplar tree at the school. It is the largest Kodiak bear carving east of the Mississippi River.
