Since opening its doors last July, The Crossvines co-op winery has focused on helping local would-be vintners develop their own vintage varieties.
MCM dropped by the research facility in Poolesville recently to check in with assistant winemaker Tyler Henley and new vintner Autumn Metzger to see how the first year of production turned out.
To make her wine, Metzger purchased grapes from local farmers last fall. Meanwhile, in its work as a research facility for Montgomery County winemakers, Crossvines planted 40 different combinations of vines on their four-acre plot. Proving Tyler Henley’s assertion, “It’s a craft that requires patience,” grapes will not grow in the vineyard until the third growing season. The first wine from the vineyard will be available in spring of 2026.
