What appeared only a few days ago to be a fight between U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin and U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler for the position of ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee ended before it could even heat up.
Nadler, a Democrat representing New York, sent a letter to colleagues letting them know he will support Raskin to be the leading minority member of the committee that is most likely to take the lead in challenging President-Elect Donald Trump.
Raskin posted on X, “Jerry Nadler is an extraordinary lawyer, patriot and public servant. His dogged defense of civil rights and civil liberties is a great inspiration to our people. I am honored and humbled to have his support in the battles ahead.”
Earlier this week, Raskin announced he would run for that position.
In a letter, which was sent to MCM, Raskin said he consulted with colleagues before opting to run for a position “where we will wage our front-line defense of the freedoms and rights of the people, the integrity of the Department of Justice and the FBI, and the security of our most precious birthright possessions: the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the rule of law, and democracy itself.”
During last month’s 2024 Legislative Breakfast at the Bethesda Marriott Conference Center, Raskin announced, he planned to stand up for the Constitution and rule of law by fighting in the House, the Senate and the court.
