About 75 firefighters responded Friday night to a house fire that displaced a family in the 1400 block of Gerard Street in Rockville.
Damage is estimated to be $550,000, according to county fire and rescue service Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.
There were no injuries. One family, including two adults and a child, were displaced.
Piringer stated investigators found a wood door between the garage and house interior, which is against fire code. According to Piringer, the occupants smelled smoke, saw a fire coming from the garage and called 911.
The blaze was accidental and started in the attached garage. Possible fire sources include a lawn mower, car battery, garage door opener, or a light — none were able to be ruled out, according to Piringer.
