Police said a Damascus man was arrested and charged for allegedly injuring his child severely.
Oliver Hernandez Caballero, 25, was arrested Monday, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
According to police, Hernandez Caballero was home alone with his 5-month-old child on Dec. 28 last year, and the child was taken to Shady Grove Hospital at about 9 p.m. after concerns the child was having difficulty breathing and eating.
Police said the child was taken to the Children’s National Medical Center due to “severe and unexplained injuries” to the head and body. Child Protective Services notified detectives from the Montgomery County Police Special Victims Investigations Division Child Abuse and Sex Assault Unit.
Detectives got information that led to the accusation that Hernandez Caballero abused his child which resulted in severe injuries. He is the child’s biological father, police stated.
Hernandez Caballero is charged with two counts of first-degree child abuse and is currently being held without bond, according to police.
