A Damascus teen wanted in connection with a murder on Father’s Day now is in custody.
Montgomery County Police report 16-year-old Isaiah Brown-Hawkins was arrested Thursday by Forest Heights Police. Brown-Hawkins is accused of shooting and killing James Joel Austin, 32, on June 18 in the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Road in Damascus.
According to Montgomery County Police, Brown-Hawkins drove away in Austin’s car, which was then located in Washington, D.C.
On Thursday, Aug. 31, he was seen driving another stolen vehicle on Audrey Lane in Oxon Hill. When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, Brown-Hawkins allegedly rammed police cruisers, got out of the car and ran away.
The teenager was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit. A handgun was found by officers during the pursuit.
He is charged with first-degree murder, armed carjacking and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony. He currently awaits his bond hearing.
On Aug. 1, Khamani Imes, 19, of Damascus was arrested for allegedly giving Brown-Hawkins the gun used in the fatal shooting of Austin.
A 16-year-old wanted in connection with a Father’s Day homicide is in custody.
