Dan Cox (R), former delegate and previous Republican nominee for Governor, announced this week he is running for Congress.
He has entered the race for the sixth congressional district of Maryland, Cox announced.
“Instead of working together to provide solutions, Washington is plagued by division and career politicians who prioritize special interests over the safety and affordability of our families,” he stated in a video announcing his candidacy.
Former President Donald Trump endorsed Cox in his bid for governor during the last election cycle. He became the Republican nominee and faced current Gov. Wes Moore. (D).
“As President Trump has courageously led, it is past time that we must choose to put America first,” Cox stated in his video.
“Instead of securing our border, Washington is diverting hard-earned tax dollars to defend foreign borders while ours remains vulnerable.” Cox said the fentanyl crisis must be addressed.
He was a state delegate from 2018 to 2022. Last year in Montgomery County Circuit Court, Cox challenged a State Board of Elections’ petition to start processing ballots early.
Maryland’s sixth congressional district is made up of several counties including part of Montgomery County.
The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. David Trone (D), who announced in May that he is running for U.S. Senate now that Sen. Ben Cardin (D) will not seek reelection.
