The stars were out Saturday evening at Shirley Povich Field at Cabin John Regional Park in Rockville. 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Dominique Dawes was on hand with her family for a pre-game ceremony then posed with many adoring fans with her medal. Dawes, who deferred the ceremonial pregame pitch to her son, was part of the inaugural class of the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
Tim Kurkjian, honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022, also threw out a pitch during the ceremony. Kurkjian, who addressed the Big Train team prior to the game, has been a baseball analyst with ESPN for over 25 years and wrote for Sports Illustrated and the Baltimore Sun before that. He was inducted into the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.
Big Train beat the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts 12-0.
