Montgomery County Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles seeks applicants for the second cohort of her S.M.A.R.T. Youth Advisory Council. Students have until Friday, Sept. 1 to submit an application.
CM Sayles hopes the youth council will increase youth civic engagement. The group will meet every two weeks on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. from September through December.
Applicants must be older than 13 and Montgomery County residents, in grades 7-12.
Participants focus on Sayles’ S.M.A.R.T. agenda, which includes:
- Strengthening 21st century learning from cradle to career and beyond.
- Making living in Montgomery County more affordable.
- Advancing sustainable local food production in the Agricultural Reserve.
- Revitalizing the economy while recovering from the pandemic.
- Tackling climate change through multi-modal transportation infrastructure.
