Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County. Here are nine things to do this weekend, December 1-3.
Friday, December 1
Tree Lighting in the Square: Kick off the holiday season at Rockville Town Square this evening from 6-8 p.m. Enjoy live music from local band King Teddy and Richard Montgomery and Rockville High Schools, a dance performance by Dawn Crafton Dance Connection, strolling entertainment, and crafts. Santa Claus is expected to make a visit. Those who are able are asked to bring a new stuffed animal to donate to Comfort Cases, a national non-profit organization based in Rockville. Light Up Ktown: Visit the Howard Avenue Park in Kensington today from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for the third annual ‘Light Up Ktown’ event. Kick off the holiday season with hot beverages, s’mores by the fire pits, music and the lighting ceremony scheduled for 6:45 p.m. The park is located at 3701 Howard Avenue. Art Exhibit: Artists & Makers Studios hosts Montgomery Art Association’s ‘Tis the Season’ exhibit from now through Dec. 20. The opening reception for the exhibit takes place today from 5-8 p.m. at the studios located at 11810 Parklawn Drive, Suite 210 in Rockville. For more information, click here.
Saturday, December 2
Bethesda Winter Wonderland: Celebrate the holiday season from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Norfolk Avenue Streetery in downtown Bethesda with choral and dance performances, live ice sculpting presentation, and a special appearance from Santa Claus. This family friendly event is free. Those who are able are asked to bring a new toy to donate to Toys for Tots.
Jingle Jubilee & Tree Lighting: Enjoy an evening of music, dance, and song at the 97th anniversary of Gaithersburg’s tree lighting ceremony. The festivities take place at the City Hall Concert Pavilion today from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free. The outdoor venue features lawn seating with limited chairs. Celebration Market: The Wheaton Arts Parade hosts this market on Saturdays and Sundays during December from noon-5 p.m. The market features the work of local artists and makers and includes music, treats, and a holiday craft for kids. The market is located in Westfield Wheaton Mall on the lower level next to entrance 11. For more information, click here.
Sunday, December 3
Garden Railway Exhibit: The popular exhibit returns to Brookside Gardens Conservatory for this holiday season. Sponsored by The Friends of Brookside Gardens the exhibit is on display during the Conservatory’s daytime hours from 10 am to 3:45 p.m., from now through Sunday, Dec. 31 (closed on December 25). Silver Spring Christmas Market and Holiday Craft Show: Holiday shopping will be in full swing today from noon-4 p.m. at Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring. Holly Trolley Fest: The National Capital Trolley Museum’s annual Holly Trolley Fest takes place weekends in December from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Take the family for a ride on the museum’s historic street cars, visit with Santa, and enjoy a holiday model railroad display.
