Montgomery County hunters harvested 15% fewer deer during the state’s fall firearm season. This year, 759 deer were killed compared with 898 in 2022, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Statewide, 28,236 deer were harvested between Nov. 25 and Dec. 9. That was a 3.2% decrease as compared to the 2022 season in which 29,160 deer were killed.
“Firearm hunting for deer continues to be our most popular season,” Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Karina Stonesifer said. “The season enables many hunters to put much needed venison in the freezer and it helps significantly with managing the state’s deer population.”
In Montgomery County, there were 20% fewer antlered deer culled during the two-week harvest as compared with 2022. There were 12% fewer antlerless deer harvested as compared to the previous year.
