Maryland Del. Sara Love was nominated Monday night by the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee to be state senator.
If approved by Gov. Wes Moore, Love will continue to represent District 16, which covers Bethesda, North Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Potomac. The senate seat became vacant when Ariana Kelly became executive director of the Commission for Women.
She was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2018 and now serves on the Environment and Transportation Committee.
Before that, she worked at NARAL Pro-Choice American as general counsel and legal director. She also has worked on mortgage discrimination.
She has a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law.
The process that enables members of the county Democratic Central Committee to fill vacant seats in the Maryland General Assembly has come under fire with some favoring a special election so residents may vote for their favorite candidate.
