Joe Vogel, who was just elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in November 2022, announced Monday that he is running for the U.S. Congress in the 6th District.
Vogel, a Democrat who represents District 17, is 26 years old and was born in Uruguay.
In his announcement, Vogel declared, “We need a new generation of leaders in Washington who understand exactly what’s at stake in this moment.” He pointed to gun violence, climate change and protection of Democracy as his leading issues.
In his 2 1/2 minute announcement video, Vogel states he has been told to “wait his turn.” However, he stated, “We just can’t wait to make sure we all have the lifetime to live.”
He has worked for Sen. Cory Booker and Hillary Clinton.
If successful, Vogel would be elected to the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. David Trone. Trone recently announced he is running for U.S. Senate to fill the seat currently held by Sen. Ben Cardin, who announced he will not seek reelection in 2024.
Vogel ran for the seat in Annapolis that former Del. Kumar Barve left to join Gov. Wes Moore’s administration.
I'm running for Congress.
We need a new generation of leaders in Washington who understand exactly what's at stake in this moment. We just can't wait to end gun violence, secure our rights, protect our democracy, and save our planet.
