Four programs from the Department of Health and Human Services are coming together to host the first Growing Up Healthy Child Safety and Resource Fair on May 20.
The event will be held at Wheaton Regional Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event aims to connect families with community resources and services. Four DHHS programs will attend the event, the African American Health Program, the Babies Born Healthy Program, the Early Childhood Child Care Support Services and the Improved Pregnancy Outcomes Program.
“Every child deserves to grow up healthy and safe,” Nurse Manager of the Babies Born Healthy Program Angeline Bell said in a press release. “We are thrilled to get out into the community and meet people where they are as summer approaches and families engage in more outdoor activities. These resources and demonstrations will help our parents and children have a happy, fun and safe summer ahead.”
The resource fair will provide information on issues related to child health and safety. Topics include pedestrian safety, pool safety and car seat safety. There will be activities available for children, including the park’s carousel, miniature train and face painting.
“With summer just around the corner, it is important for parents and guardians to have knowledge and resources to keep their kid’s health and safe during summer break and beyond,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a press release. “The Growing Up Healthy Resource Fair will offer information about a range of health and safety topics. I encourage all residents who are caring for children to attend this event.”
Those interested in attending the event can register online.
